Thanks to my brother-in-law Eugene and my Nephew Dave (good name) we got a lot of the electrical working on Sunday - 24 June. I was in the house when I heard the distinct noise that brought me back to my submarine days - Dive - Dive - Dive - alright maybe not exactly the same - but still a good and distinct noise that got some neighbors out of the house to come over and inspect what was going on. So - the horn has been working on and off - seems it works for like 3-4 blasts and then it stops. So I took it apart and checked it out, cleaned what I could and put it all together. I didn't put it back in the truck because it is like 100 degrees outside today. Here are some of the pieces I was working on in the house with A/C. Information off the horn: Klaxon - 8C 6 volts Delco - Remy Corp. Anderson, IND. USA Holding the horn together - 6 bolts - 3/8 in. open end 2 bolts horn bracket to frame - 1/2 in.
Finally got to do some work on the pick-up truck - nothing major - just some of the easy stuff that I knew I can handle. Jeffery helped me with some of the electric things - found out the starter button was not working and we had to take the floor boards off to get to the starter and take that off. Ordering parts - oil filter, Lucas Classic Motor Oil, gaskets for the fuel vacuum pump, carburetor rebuild kit, fuel filter, air filter, starter button, battery, spark plugs and wires, ignition coil and distributor cap. In addition to researching how to fix/replace these parts - I have slowly began cleaning up the pieces as I go - repainting some parts and shining others. My goal is to try and start it at the end of this month when my brother-in-law is in town. Here are some before and after pictures of the vacuum fuel feed system - I did not take it apart - the gasket looked pretty good still - (have 2 on back up just in case). I can hear the insides moving - so I am hoping tha
So it appears that the old truck starts better with a fully charged battery and some clean and shiny connections (electrical). I was told that it shouldn't matter if the connections are shiny and clean - just as long as they are connected - it should start the same. I honestly don't know how it all works, but at least I think it will start consistently. As for the Argyle 4th of July parade this year - the Chamber is not hosting it - I am sure it will be a good showing - but we will wait for the Chamber to host it - hopefully next year. In the meantime, if you know of one locally - send me a notice. I will be joining the Adirondasck Car Enthusiast Club on the 1st Tuesday of July - ADIRONDACK CAR ENTHUSIASTS - Home (weebly.com) - and I have already blocked off my calendar for the Car Show they are hosting at Crandall Park in August. Phil and Lisa mentioned the Granville Car Show in September - So it looks like that will be another good one - just might have to find a che
