Running around Town - Part 4 (oh yeah and out of Gas)

Image
We drove her around the block of few times - Jeffrey and IπŸ‘‡πŸ˜Ž Jeffrey and DiπŸ‘‡ Phil and I, Phil and LisaπŸ‘‡ Tina and I......Sorry Frank..........you were in the passenger seat.............but  Yeah - good point - never let the old girl run out of gas. That lead to rebuilding the Fuel Vacuum Pump

Sunday 19th of August Part 3 - 1649 hours or 4:49 PM

Bed of the truck all cleaned off, camper moved and  the ramps were set up....... Seemed only fitting that Jeffrey should drive it out of the garage - after all - look at the smile on his face at the end.................Thanks again Jeffrey!! We are almost ready for the parade at Happy Days in Fort Edward 2019

Sunday the 19th of August - Part 2

It is a good day - of course there are only 2 bolts holding in the starter - just need everything that is in the way of the starter removed or dismantled a little bit - so a 2 bolt job takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes.   Started up nicely............. Then it was time to clean off the back of the truck, move the camper and put up the ramps and don't forget to check the gas level.  Seems to be starting good - but then we know from the past that once it is up and running it will continue to start up - tomorrow will be the true test - but in the mean time.... What did my brother in law Eugene say about reverse and the parking brake and ???????? Better yet - what did the son of the owner say and mean about it being a DOUBLE CLUTCH???

Sunday 19 August - early afternoon - Still in the Garage - Ugh!! Part 1

Sunday - the 19th of August was a 4 Part Day The truck starts up sporadically or sometimes not at all - so as we - (someone had to take the pictures) were working on trying to get it running looks like it might be time for a new starter.................Funny thing about old vehicles and parts - you can find original parts on Ebay for say $239.00 - $300.00 with no guarantee that they will work - or you can just google the part and find a rebuilt one that will work for less. Thanks to the  Buckeye Auto Electric Company    They had 2 Delco-Remy 710-D starters and shipped one the day I called them. Okay, after this part - everything under the hood electrical is new - with the exception of the battery cables. Shouldn't take long - it is only 2 bolts holding the starter in - well that is what Jeffrey said.

What Year Again?

Upon fine tuning the truck - it seemed to do better if we tuned it to 1928 specs instead of 1927 - which of course lead us to the research of What is the real year of the truck.....or at least the engine..... Casting Numbers From the 1920's through the 1960's GM used a casting date system to identify the date when a part was made. A casting number is a  raised  number which is cast into the block, cylinder head, transmission case, differential housing and many other cast iron parts. Casting dates are a series of raised letter-number combinations. The casting date for the '28 is located under the Chevy bow tie and to the left of the distributor. I believe the '27's date is right behind the distributor. The date has three components: 1. The first is a letter (A-L). This indicates the month of the casting (A=Jan, B=Feb, C=Mar, etc.) 2. The next item of info is a number (1-31). This is the day of the month that the engine block was cast. 3. The th

Flywheel and learning something new - Pretty cool

Bob Stein from church came over to look at the truck - just in conversation at church - learned he worked on classic cars when he was in college and is currently helping someone with a Model T - pretty cool.  We tried starting it up but had no success and of course that got us both into figuring out why - since it started up the last 2 days.   He asked all the questions about what we have been doing with the car and then the fun began for the day. There is also a 40 degree marking on the flywheel - but I did not take a picture of that (at least I think there is) In trying to fine tune the truck it worked better if we followed the 1928 engine directions instead of the 1927: file:///C:/Users/Owner/Downloads/show_pdf%20(4).pdf SO now the issue becomes what year is the truck actually, but that is for another post/date, as I am still researching that information.  IGNITION TIMING Chevrolet Models 1925 to June, 1927 (all models without semi-automatic advance)
